Le feuilleton du banc des Lions Indomptables connaît un nouveau rebondissement. L’ancien sélectionneur, Antonio Conceiçao, brise le silence et confirme les discussions pour un retour au chevet de la sélection camerounaise. Une poste qu'il avait perdu après la CAN 2021 au Cameroun.

La rumeur grondait depuis des semaines. Antonio Conceiçao, l'homme qui avait redonné un visage aux Lions entre 2019 et 2022, était sur les rangs pour un come-back après le départ de Rigobert Song. Aujourd'hui, le technicien portugais met les points sur les « i » et confirme les pourparlers.

« C’est vrai oui, on a discuté de la possibilité d’un retour au départ de Rigobert Song pendant presque une semaine », révèle-t-il, sans détour.

Mais contre toute attente, l'entraîneur a décliné l'offre. La raison ? Un contentieux financier encore brûlant avec la Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT). « Je leur ai répondu que tant que notre litige n’était pas réglé, revenir au Cameroun n’avait aucun sens. Les conditions n’étaient pas réunies », assène-t-il, le verbe franc.

Un acte de fermeté qui tranche avec le ballet habituel des nominations. Conceiçao pose ses conditions et assume son choix. Un choix qui a, de fait, ouvert la voie à la nomination surprise du Belge Marc Brys.

« Ils ont opté pour Marc Brys et ils ont bien fait », concède-t-il, avec une pointe de philosophie. Une phrase qui met un point final à ce chapitre et semble souhaiter bonne chance à son successeur, malgré les circonstances tumultueuses de sa prise de fonction.

L'affaire est donc close, mais elle en dit long sur le climat qui persiste autour des Lions Indomptables. Le message d'Antonio Conceiçao est clair : on ne revient pas en arrière sans régler les comptes du passé.

The saga of the Indomitable Lions' coaching position has taken a new turn. Former coach Antonio Conceiçao breaks his silence and confirms the advanced discussions for a return to lead the Cameroonian national team. A door he closed himself, due to a lack of favourable conditions.

Rumours had been swirling for weeks. Antonio Conceiçao, the man who had restored the Lions' identity between 2019 and 2022, was in the running for a comeback after Rigobert Song's departure. Today, the Portuguese technician sets the record straight and confirms the talks.

"It's true, yes, we discussed the possibility of a return when Rigobert Song left for almost a week," he reveals, bluntly.

But against all expectations, the coach turned down the offer. The reason? A still-simmering financial dispute with the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT). "I told them that as long as our dispute was not settled, returning to Cameroon made no sense. The conditions were not right," he states, his words clear.

An act of firmness that contrasts with the usual dance of appointments. Conceiçao sets his conditions and stands by his decision. A choice that, in fact, paved the way for the surprising appointment of Belgian Marc Brys.

"They opted for Marc Brys and they did well," he concedes, with a hint of philosophy. A sentence that puts a final full stop to this chapter and seems to wish his successor good luck, despite the tumultuous circumstances of his appointment.

The case is therefore closed, but it speaks volumes about the persistent climate surrounding the Indomitable Lions. Antonio Conceiçao's message is clear: you don't go back without settling past accounts.
