Ivory Coast vs Cameroon: Indomitable Lions arrive in Abidjan for a new test
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions have arrived in Abidjan after drawing 1-1 with Congo in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. David Pagou’s men will now face Ivory Coast in a friendly match on Saturday night at the Ebimpé Stadium.
The Indomitable Lions have quickly moved on from their latest qualifying fixture.
After securing a 1-1 draw against Congo in Brazzaville in the second round of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Cameroon travelled to Ivory Coast on Wednesday afternoon for their next international assignment.
The delegation, led by head coach David Pagou, arrived in Abidjan after around three hours of flight from Brazzaville.
Captain Bryan Mbeumo and his teammates have settled into a hotel in Plateau, one of the central and upscale districts of the Ivorian capital.
Cameroon leave Brazzaville with one point
Cameroon played Congo on Tuesday at the Alphonse Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville.
The Indomitable Lions created several opportunities before taking the lead in the 53rd minute through an own goal by Congo goalkeeper Melvin Zinga.
However, Cameroon were unable to hold on to their advantage and eventually settled for a 1-1 draw.
The result leaves Cameroon at the top of Group G with four points, one point ahead of Namibia and Comoros.
Third game of the international break
The friendly against Ivory Coast will be Cameroon’s third match during the current international window.
The Lions began the qualifying campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Comoros at home before travelling to Brazzaville for the draw against Congo.
The meeting with Ivory Coast will have no direct impact on the AFCON qualifying standings. Instead, it will provide David Pagou with another opportunity to assess his squad against high-level opposition.
The coaching staff will also have to manage player fatigue after two competitive matches and another international trip in a short period.
Ivory Coast await at Ebimpé
The Cameroon-Ivory Coast clash will take place on Saturday night at the Ebimpé Stadium in Abidjan.
For captain Bryan Mbeumo and his teammates, the fixture represents another opportunity to test themselves against one of Africa’s leading football nations.
After facing Comoros and Congo, Cameroon will encounter a different style of opposition and another demanding test in Abidjan.
Namibia already on the horizon
Once the friendly against Ivory Coast is over, Cameroon will turn its attention back to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The Indomitable Lions are scheduled to face Namibia twice in November for the third and fourth rounds of the qualifying campaign.
With four points from their opening two games, Cameroon currently sit top of Group G. The November double-header could therefore prove important in the group’s qualification race.
But before Namibia, Cameroon have one final challenge to complete in this international window.
On Saturday night in Abidjan, the Indomitable Lions will take on Ivory Coast with the objective of closing the international break on a positive note.
