Au Cameroun, on connaît ça : quand un champion entre sur le terrain avec l'étiquette de favori et repart avec une défaite, tout le stade se tait. C'est exactement ce qui arrive à Gabriel Attal dans la course à l'Élysée 2027.

Selon un sondage de l'institut Cluster17 réalisé pour l'édition européenne de Politico, le secrétaire général de Renaissance — le parti fondé par Emmanuel Macron — ne pointerait qu'à la quatrième position du premier tour dans l'un des scénarios testés. Un coup dur pour celui qui a été Premier ministre en 2024 et qui a officiellement annoncé sa candidature le 22 mai dernier.

Le scénario qui fait mal

Dans l'hypothèse où Attal serait l'unique candidat du camp centriste, voici ce que disent les chiffres :

• Marine Le Pen (RN) : 31 % — la patronne incontestée


• Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI) : 20 % — le vieux lion rugit encore


• Raphaël Glucksmann (PS-Place Publique) : 14 % — l'outsider qui monte


• Gabriel Attal (Renaissance) : 13,5 % — la douche froide

Traduction footballistique : Attal ne verrait même pas la couleur du second tour. Éliminé dès les phases de groupes, sans appel.

Édouard Philippe, le vrai patron du camp central ?

Le contraste est brutal. Dans un autre scénario, où Édouard Philippe représenterait le camp centriste, l'ancien Premier ministre décrocherait 19 % — soit une deuxième place partagée avec Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Marine Le Pen resterait en tête avec 31 %.

Autrement dit : le camp Macron a peut-être un meilleur cheval dans son écurie. Et ce n'est pas Attal.

Méthodologie : parole de sondeur

Le sondage a été réalisé les 15 et 16 septembre en ligne, auprès de 1 900 électeurs inscrits. La marge d'erreur oscille entre 1,2 et 2,7 points de pourcentage. Ce n'est pas une vérité absolue, mais c'est un signal fort envoyé à la macronie.

Le premier tour de la présidentielle française est prévu pour le 18 avril 2027. Si personne ne dépasse 50 % des voix, les deux premiers s'affronteront au second tour le 2 mai. Emmanuel Macron, arrivé au terme de son second mandat, ne pourra pas se représenter selon la Constitution.

Pour Attal, la route est longue. Mais en politique comme au sport, un sondage n'est pas un match. Il reste du temps. Beaucoup de temps. Peut-être trop, diront certains.

According to a poll by the Cluster17 institute for Politico's European edition, the secretary-general of Renaissance — the party founded by Emmanuel Macron — would place only fourth in the first round under one of the tested scenarios. A heavy blow for the man who served as Prime Minister in 2024 and officially announced his candidacy on May 22.

The Scenario That Hurts

In the hypothesis where Attal would be the sole candidate of the centrist camp, here's what the numbers say:

The contrast is brutal. In another scenario, where Édouard Philippe would represent the centrist camp, the former Prime Minister would secure 19% — a shared second place with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Marine Le Pen would still lead with 31%.

In other words: Macron's camp may have a better horse in its stable. And it's not Attal.

Methodology: Pollster's Word

The poll was conducted on September 15 and 16 online, with 1,900 registered voters. The margin of error ranges from 1.2 to 2.7 percentage points. It's not absolute truth, but it's a strong signal sent to Macron's camp.

The first round of the French presidential election is scheduled for April 18, 2027. If no candidate exceeds 50% of the vote, the top two will face off in a second round on May 2. Emmanuel Macron, having reached the end of his second term, cannot run again under the Constitution.

For Attal, the road is long. But in politics as in sports, a poll is not a match. There's still time. A lot of time. Perhaps too much, some would say.
