Téhéran dénonce une « attaque barbare »

L’Iran a vivement réagi. Dans un communiqué publié sur Instagram par son ambassade au Turkménistan, Téhéran condamne ce qu’il présente comme une attaque américaine contre une cérémonie familiale.

L’ambassade iranienne estime que le fait de frapper un rassemblement de civils constitue une violation du droit international humanitaire et évoque un possible « crime contre l’humanité ».

La représentation diplomatique iranienne s’en prend également au silence supposé des organisations internationales et des défenseurs des droits de l’homme. Selon elle, l’absence de réaction face à cette affaire pourrait encourager la répétition de telles opérations.

Ces accusations doivent toutefois être distinguées des faits actuellement établis : les circonstances exactes de la frappe et la responsabilité directe de l'attaque contre les civils font encore l'objet d'une enquête américaine.

Le Centcom affirme avoir visé une tour de télécommunication

De son côté, le Commandement central des forces armées américaines (Centcom) reconnaît avoir mené des frappes contre des cibles en Iran, mais affirme que la cible dans la zone concernée était une tour de télécommunication.

L'armée américaine cherche désormais à déterminer ce qui s'est réellement produit. Selon les informations rapportées par Axios, les militaires examinent notamment les enregistrements provenant des drones qui ont procédé à l'ajustement du tir.

L'objectif est de savoir si la frappe américaine est effectivement à l'origine de la mort des cinq civils rapportée par les autorités iraniennes.

Le vice-président américain James David Vance avait auparavant assuré que Washington procéderait à une vérification approfondie des faits.

Cette enquête sera donc déterminante. Elle devra notamment établir la nature exacte de la cible, les renseignements disponibles au moment de la frappe, la localisation de la cérémonie et la chaîne des événements ayant conduit aux pertes civiles.

Des explosions signalées dans le sud de l'Iran
