FIFA : Kevin Lamour écarté après avoir défié Gianni Infantino sur un projet explosif
Crise FIFA – Le bras de fer autour du controversé FIFA Forward Enterprise vient de faire une nouvelle victime. Kevin Lamour, directeur général des opérations de la FIFA, a quitté ses fonctions avec effet immédiat après avoir publiquement critiqué Gianni Infantino et un projet d’ouverture des activités commerciales de la Coupe du monde à des investisseurs privés.
La tempête qui couvait dans les couloirs de la FIFA vient d’emporter un deuxième haut responsable. Kevin Lamour, directeur général des opérations de l’instance mondiale du football depuis novembre 2024, n’est plus en poste.
Dans un communiqué publié lundi, la FIFA a confirmé la fin de sa collaboration avec son dirigeant à compter du 17 août 2026.
« La FIFA confirme que son partenariat avec Kevin Lamour, son directeur général des opérations, a pris fin le 17 août 2026. La FIFA remercie Kevin pour ses deux années de service et lui souhaite le meilleur pour l’avenir. »
Mais derrière la formulation diplomatique, l’affaire ressemble à un véritable règlement de comptes interne.
Kevin Lamour limogé ? La FIFA entretient le flou
Selon plusieurs médias britanniques, notamment The Times et Sky Sports, Kevin Lamour aurait été limogé.
La FIFA, elle, ne confirme pas explicitement cette version et se limite à annoncer la fin du partenariat entre les deux parties.
D’après Sky Sports, les employés de la FIFA ont été informés du départ de Kevin Lamour lundi soir.
Ce qui est certain, c’est que cette séparation intervient quelques semaines seulement après des déclarations explosives du désormais ancien directeur général des opérations contre le président de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino.
« Le projet d’une seule personne »
À la fin du mois de juillet, Kevin Lamour avait publiquement dénoncé le projet FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) dans des déclarations accordées à l’Associated Press.
Ce projet envisageait notamment d’ouvrir une partie des activités commerciales liées à la Coupe du monde à des investisseurs privés. Une perspective qui a suscité de fortes interrogations au sein même de l’organisation mondiale du football.
Pour Kevin Lamour, le problème dépassait largement une simple divergence stratégique.
Il accusait notamment Gianni Infantino d’avoir induit les employés de la FIFA en erreur sur la nature et les contours du projet.
« C’est le projet d’une seule personne. Non seulement ce projet ne devrait pas aboutir, mais il est temps que les dirigeants du football se posent les bonnes questions et prennent les bonnes décisions », avait-il déclaré.
Des propos d’une rare virulence venant d’un dirigeant encore en fonction au sein de la FIFA.
Kevin Lamour savait qu’il pouvait perdre son poste
L’ancien directeur général des opérations semblait parfaitement conscient du prix potentiel de ses déclarations.
Avant même l’annonce de son départ, Kevin Lamour avait évoqué ouvertement la possibilité d’être sanctionné.
« Si cela signifie que je perds mon emploi, qu’il en soit ainsi. Je comprendrai et respecterai cette décision. De toute façon, je dormirai bien cette nuit. »
Quelques semaines plus tard, son départ est devenu réalité.
La chronologie interroge forcément sur le lien entre ses prises de position publiques et la décision de mettre fin à sa collaboration avec la FIFA, même si l’instance mondiale du football n’a officiellement donné aucune raison précise à cette séparation.
Le deuxième départ dans le dossier FIFA Forward Enterprise
Kevin Lamour n’est pas le premier haut responsable à quitter la FIFA dans le contexte de cette crise.
En juillet dernier, Carlos Cordeiro, conseiller principal de Gianni Infantino, avait déjà démissionné en raison de son opposition au projet FIFA Forward Enterprise.
Deux départs de haut niveau autour d’un même dossier : le signal est fort.

In a statement released on Monday, FIFA confirmed that its relationship with Lamour ended on 17 August 2026.
“FIFA confirms that its relationship with Kevin Lamour, its Chief Operating Officer, came to an end on 17 August 2026. FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Behind the carefully worded statement, however, the affair appears to reflect a serious internal conflict.

According to British media outlets, including The Times and Sky Sports, Kevin Lamour was dismissed.
FIFA has not explicitly confirmed that he was sacked and has limited itself to announcing the end of its relationship with the senior executive.
Sky Sports reported that FIFA staff were informed of Lamour's departure on Monday evening.
What is clear is that his exit came only weeks after explosive public criticism directed at FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Such remarks were highly unusual coming from a senior FIFA executive still in office.
Lamour knew he could lose his job
Kevin Lamour appeared fully aware that his public statements could cost him his position.
Before his departure was announced, he openly acknowledged the possibility of losing his job.
“If that means I lose my job, so be it. I will understand and respect that decision. Either way, I will sleep well tonight.”
A few weeks later, his departure became a reality.
