Tanzanie et Bénin écrivent l’histoire : l’Afrique débarque en force à la Coupe du Monde U20 féminine
C’est officiel. Pour la première fois de leur histoire, la Tanzanie et le Bénin poseront le pied sur la plus grande scène du football féminin junior. Deux nations africaines qui n’avaient jamais goûté à la Coupe du Monde U20 féminine. Deux équipes qui ont fait le job en éliminatoires. Et pour le Cameroun, c’est une gifle qui reste encore cuisante.
Les Tanzaniennes, emmenées par Bakari Shime, ont réussi l’exploit : elles ont sorti le Cameroun pour s’offrir leur ticket historique. Une première qui restera gravée. Maintenant, place au vrai test. Le tirage au sort ne leur a pas fait de cadeau. Dans leur groupe, trois cadors : le Brésil, l’Angleterre et le Canada.
Le Brésil, jamais champion en 12 participations, mais déjà deux fois troisième (2006 et 2022). Une machine expérimentée qui peut faire très mal. L’Angleterre, six fois présente, a déjà goûté aux demi-finales et ramené le bronze en 2018. Le Canada, finaliste en 2002, en sera à sa 10e participation. Autant dire que les filles de Bakari Shime vont devoir sortir le grand jeu dès le premier match.

La question est simple et brutale : la Tanzanie peut-elle entrer dans la légende ? Ou va-t-elle se contenter d’une présence honorable face à des monolithes du football féminin ?
Côté Bénin, l’ambiance est tout aussi électrique. Les Amazones U20, dirigées par Abdoulaye Ouzérou et portées par la meilleure buteuse des éliminatoires Romaine Gandonou, vivent leur première compétition mondiale… tout court. Pas seulement en U20. En football, point final. Elles ont écrasé la Guinée 9-4 au premier tour, puis balayé l’Égypte 5-0 sur l’ensemble des deux matchs. Une qualification méritée, musclée, africaine.
Dans le groupe A, elles retrouvent la Pologne (pays organisateur), l’Argentine et le Mexique. Pas de cadeau non plus.

Deux nations africaines. Deux premières historiques. Deux groupes de fer. L’Afrique n’est plus là pour faire de la figuration. La Tanzanie a déjà prouvé qu’elle pouvait sortir une nation plus expérimentée comme le Cameroun. Le Bénin a démontré une efficacité redoutable en éliminatoires.
Maintenant, place aux matches. Place à l’histoire. Le 5 septembre, les projecteurs s’allumeront. Et le continent tout entier regardera.
L’aventure polonaise commence. Et l’Afrique, elle, n’a plus rien à prouver. Elle est déjà là.
Tanzania and Benin Make History: Africa Arrives in Force at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup
It’s official. For the first time ever, Tanzania and Benin will step onto the biggest stage in junior women’s football. Two African nations that had never tasted the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. Two teams that did the job in the qualifiers. And for Cameroon, the wound is still fresh.
Tanzania, led by Bakari Shime, pulled off a historic feat by eliminating Cameroon to earn their first-ever ticket. Now comes the real test. The draw was ruthless. In their group: Brazil, England and Canada.
Brazil, never champions in 12 appearances but twice third (2006 and 2022). An experienced machine that can hurt. England, with six participations, has already reached the semi-finals and taken bronze in 2018. Canada, finalists in 2002, will be making their 10th appearance. Bakari Shime’s players will need to bring their A-game from the first whistle.

The question is simple and brutal: can Tanzania write their name in the history books, or will they settle for a respectable presence against the powerhouses of the women’s game?
On the Benin side, the atmosphere is just as electric. The U20 Amazones, coached by Abdoulaye Ouzérou and led by top scorer of the qualifiers Romaine Gandonou, are living their first-ever world competition — not just at U20 level, but in football full stop. They crushed Guinea 9-4 in the first round, then swept Egypt 5-0 on aggregate. A deserved, muscular, African qualification.
In Group A they face hosts Poland, Argentina and Mexico. No easy ride.

Two African nations. Two historic firsts. Two tough groups. Africa is no longer here to make up the numbers. Tanzania has already shown it can eliminate a more experienced side like Cameroon. Benin has demonstrated ruthless efficiency in the qualifiers.
Now the matches begin. History is waiting. On 5 September the spotlight turns on. And the entire continent will be watching.
