Le Malawi continue d’écrire l’une des plus belles pages de cette CAN féminine 2026. Pour sa toute première participation à la compétition, les Scorchers ont frappé un énorme coup ce mercredi en dominant l’Algérie (3-1) en demi-finale. Portées par les incontournables sœurs Chawinga, les Malawites décrochent une qualification historique pour la finale et se rapprochent désormais du rêve ultime : soulever le trophée continental.
Les Scorchers entrent dans l’histoire
Personne ne pourra désormais parler du Malawi comme d’un simple outsider. Après avoir surpris le Nigeria en phase de groupes puis écarté le Ghana en quarts de finale, les Scorchers ont franchi une nouvelle montagne en faisant tomber l’Algérie dans le dernier carré.

L’Algérie démarre fort, puis bascule
L’Algérie avait pourtant bien lancé la rencontre. Marine Dafeur et ses partenaires ont tenté d’imposer leur rythme dès les premières minutes, mais ont rapidement manqué de réalisme devant le bloc défensif malawite.
Progressivement, le Malawi a pris confiance. Les Scorchers ont commencé à sortir de leur camp, à exploiter leur vitesse et à mettre sous pression une défense algérienne qui allait finir par craquer.

Profitant d’un ballon mal repoussé par la défense adverse, Tabitha Chawinga réalise un geste spectaculaire. D’un retourné acrobatique, la capitaine malawite trouve le chemin des filets et ouvre le score.

Quelques minutes plus tard, sa sœur Temwa Chawinga manque d’abord sa chance en trouvant la transversale. Mais l’attaquante ne baisse pas les bras. Dans la première minute du temps additionnel de la première période, elle se retrouve à nouveau face à Chloé N’Gazi, l’efface et pousse le ballon au fond.
2-0 pour le Malawi à la pause.
L’Algérie obtient toutefois l’expulsion de Rose Kadzere juste avant la mi-temps, rééquilibrant les forces pour la seconde période.
Ikram Adjabi relance les Vertes
Revenue des vestiaires avec de nouvelles intentions, l’Algérie repart à l’attaque. Les Vertes mettent davantage de pression sur le camp malawite et finissent par trouver la faille à l’heure de jeu.
Sur un coup franc de Marine Dafeur, Ikram Adjabi, présente au second poteau, surgit et réduit le score d’une frappe sèche.
À 2-1, le suspense est totalement relancé.

Sur une contre-attaque, Tabitha Chawinga s’offre un doublé et éteint définitivement les derniers espoirs algériens.
Le coup de sifflet final confirme alors une performance exceptionnelle : Malawi 3-1 Algérie.
Pour une première participation à la CAN féminine, difficile de rêver meilleur parcours.
Getrude Mutharika célèbre une victoire « historique »
La qualification des Scorchers a provoqué une immense vague de fierté au Malawi. La Première Dame, Getrude Mutharika, a notamment salué l’exploit de la sélection féminine sur les réseaux sociaux.
« Ce soir, ce n’est pas seulement une victoire contre l’Algérie ; c’est une histoire historique », a-t-elle écrit.
Pour elle, cette qualification dépasse largement le cadre sportif. Elle symbolise l’émergence d’une équipe qui a décidé de jouer son football sans complexe et de bousculer la hiérarchie continentale.

Malawi are continuing to write one of the most remarkable stories of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Playing in the competition for the very first time, the Scorchers produced another stunning performance on Wednesday, defeating Algeria 3-1 in the semi-finals to secure a historic place in the final.
Inspired once again by the outstanding Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa, Malawi are now just one match away from winning the biggest prize in African women’s football.
A historic achievement for Malawi
Malawi can no longer be described simply as tournament outsiders.
After shocking Nigeria during the group stage and knocking Ghana out in the quarter-finals, the Scorchers took another major step by overcoming Algeria in the semi-finals.
The Algerians came into the match full of confidence after eliminating Côte d’Ivoire in the previous round. But Malawi’s unity, defensive discipline and explosive attacking power eventually made the difference.
The final score was emphatic: Malawi 3-1 Algeria.
For the first time in their history, and in their first-ever appearance at WAFCON, the Scorchers are through to the final.
Algeria start strongly but lose control
Algeria began the match with greater control. Captain Marine Dafeur and her teammates tried to dictate the tempo, but struggled to convert their early dominance into clear scoring opportunities.

After several dangerous attempts from Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga were denied by Algeria goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi, the breakthrough finally came in the 33rd minute.

According to the First Lady, Malawi’s achievement goes beyond a football result. The Scorchers have become a symbol of belief, unity and ambition.
She also urged the players to finish the job.
“Only 90 minutes separate us from winning the ultimate prize in African women’s football.”
Malawi now have the opportunity to turn an already unforgettable debut campaign into a continental triumph.
