Alors que le scrutin se déroulait ce dimanche au Cameroun, c’est depuis l’ambassade du Cameroun en Chine, à près de 10 000 km de Yaoundé, qu’est parvenu ce premier résultat partiel, créant l’émoi sur les réseaux sociaux.
Il était 19h05, heure locale chinoise, lorsque l’urne a livré son secret. Le dépouillement, suivi avec une attention particulière par la diaspora camerounaise présente sur place, a consacré Issa Tchiroma, le président du parti FSNC et ancien ministre de la Communication, comme le vainqueur de ce bureau. Il a recueilli 21 voix.
La véritable surprise réside dans le score du président sortant, Paul Biya, candidat à sa propre succession. Le chef de l'État, au pouvoir depuis 1982, n’a obtenu que 12 suffrages, se plaçant ainsi en deuxième position sur ce terrain pour le moins symbolique.
Dans les profondeurs du classement, Cabral Libii et Bello Bouba Maigari, respectivement président du PCRN et leader du UNDP, partagent la troisième marche du podium avec 2 voix chacun. Joshua Osih, président du SDF et autre candidat notable, ferme la marche avec une unique voix.
Ce résultat, bien que totalement anecdotique à l’échelle des millions d’électeurs camerounais, est lourd de sens. Il est perçu par certains observateurs comme le reflet d’un certain mécontentement au sein d’une frange de la diaspora, souvent critique à l’égard du pouvoir en place. La portée réelle de ce vote à l'étranger, et notamment son impact sur le résultat national final, reste cependant à déterminer. Une chose est sûre : ce petit bureau de Pékin a réussi, pour une soirée, à bousculer les pronostics et à alimenter toutes les spéculations.

In a scenario straight out of a political thriller, the results from a polling station for the Cameroonian presidential election, counted in Beijing, have delivered a surprising verdict. While the vote was taking place this Sunday in Cameroon, this first partial result emerged from the Cameroonian embassy in China, nearly 6,000 miles from Yaoundé, causing a stir on social media.
At 7:05 PM local time in China, the ballot box revealed its secret. The count, closely watched by the Cameroonian diaspora present on site, crowned Issa Tchiroma, president of the FSNC party and former Minister of Communication, as the winner of this station with 21 votes.
The real shock lies in the score of the incumbent president, Paul Biya, a candidate for his own re-election. The head of state, in power since 1982, garnered only 12 votes, placing him second in this highly symbolic contest.
