Cette initiative marque un tournant dans la politique fiscale camerounaise. Elle envoie un signal extrêmement fort à la fois à l'opinion publique nationale, qui réclame plus de transparence, et aux partenaires internationaux, pour qui l'amélioration de la gouvernance est cruciale. L'objectif affiché est double : s'assurer que l'exemplarité en matière de contribution citoyenne parte du sommet de l'État et élargir l'assiette fiscale en s'attaquant à des contribuables au potentiel financier significatif.



Jusqu'ici, le contrôle fiscal visait essentiellement les entreprises et les particuliers "lambda". La création de cette unité spécialisée dédiée aux « très hauts revenus » démontre une volonté politique de rompre avec les pratiques opaques et de lutter contre toute forme d'impunité financière. Reste à voir comment cette cellule exercera ses prérogatives dans les faits et quelles seront les premières retombées de ce nouveau coup de pression fiscal sur l'élite camerounaise.

Tax compliance is no longer just for the average taxpayer. In a powerful move to enforce absolute fiscal equity, the Cameroonian government has granted unprecedented authority to a special unit. Its mission? To meticulously audit the tax compliance of the state's highest officials.

The Ministry of Finance has not only reactivated but significantly strengthened the powers of this structure dedicated to the tax monitoring of the elite. The scope of control is unambiguous: the President of the Republic, members of the government, directors-general of public and para-public companies, and all similar high-ranking officials are now under the tax authorities' microscope.



This initiative marks a turning point in Cameroonian tax policy. It sends an extremely strong signal both to the national public, demanding more transparency, and to international partners, for whom improved governance is crucial. The stated goal is twofold: to ensure that exemplary citizen contribution starts at the top of the state and to broaden the tax base by targeting taxpayers with significant financial potential.



Until now, tax audits primarily focused on standard businesses and individuals. The creation of this specialized unit for the "highest earners" demonstrates a political will to break with opaque practices and fight all forms of financial impunity. It remains to be seen how this unit will exercise its prerogatives in practice and what the initial outcomes of this new fiscal pressure on the Cameroonian elite will be.
