Lors du déplacement des Red Devils sur la pelouse de Fulham ce dimanche 24 août 2025, dans le cadre de la 2? journée de Premier League, Onana a dû une nouvelle fois se contenter d’une place sur le banc.
Titulaire à la place du Lion Indomptable, le gardien turc Altay Bayindir a été préféré par Rúben Amorim. L’entraîneur portugais a justifié son choix avant la rencontre :
« C’est le genre de décision que l’entraîneur doit prendre : analyser le match, imaginer le suivant et mettre les meilleurs joueurs pour gagner la rencontre. C’est ce que j’ai fait. »
De retour dans le groupe après un premier forfait, André Onana affiche un visage pensif, visiblement touché par cette situation qui pourrait compromettre son statut à Old Trafford. Plus inquiétant encore : si Bayindir venait à enchaîner des performances convaincantes, la hiérarchie des gardiens pourrait durablement basculer.
En tribunes, Onana a été aperçu aux côtés de son ami Walter “Le Russe”, en marge de ce duel face à Fulham au Craven Cottage. Pendant ce temps, son compatriote Bryan Mbeumo, lui, a bien été titularisé à la pointe de l’attaque mancunienne.

Manchester United: André Onana benched again as Bayindir starts in goal
Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana has once again been left out of Manchester United’s starting XI. For the second game in a row, manager Rúben Amorim decided to start Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir instead, in the 2nd round of the Premier League against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Ahead of the game, Amorim explained:
“This is the kind of decision a coach has to make: analyzing the game, thinking ahead, and choosing the best players to win. That’s what I did.”
Onana, who returned to the squad after missing the first game, looked thoughtful and frustrated on the bench. If Bayindir delivers solid performances, the Cameroonian could face serious competition for the No.1 spot at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, fellow Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo started for United in attack.
