Cameroon’s dream ended in heartbreak and controversy. On Saturday in Luanda, the Indomitable Lions lost 74-73 to host nation Angola in the AfroBasket 2025 semifinal, with refereeing once again at the center of heated debate.
In a nail-biting clash, both teams were tied 73-73 with less than a second remaining. Then came the game-changing call: Angolan forward Gakou earned two free throws with just 0.7 seconds on the clock. He sank one, sealing Angola’s path to the final and leaving Cameroon devastated.
Despite the painful defeat, Cameroon bows out with pride after an inspiring run built on grit and collective spirit.
For Angola, this victory adds to a flawless campaign (5 wins in 5 games), yet controversy continues to cloud their success. Questionable officiating already marred their quarterfinal against Cape Verde, and once again in the semifinal against Cameroon.
Angola now heads to the AfroBasket 2025 final on home soil against Mali, who stunned Senegal in the other semifinal. A fiery showdown awaits for the continental crown.
