Dans un communiqué publié ce mardi, la formation politique dirigée par Bello Bouba Maïgari fustige une décision "injustifiée" du Conseil constitutionnel, qu’elle accuse de "porter atteinte à la crédibilité du processus électoral".
Selon l’UNDP, cette exclusion fait suite à une "prétendue pluralité d’investitures" au sein du parti Manidem, utilisée par ELECAM pour écarter l’opposant. Un motif jugé fallacieux par l’UNDP, qui y voit plutôt une instrumentalisation des institutions à des fins politiques.
"Nous déplorons que le Conseil constitutionnel ait choisi de s’en tenir à une lecture strictement formaliste des textes, en refusant d’examiner le fond des irrégularités soulevées", peut-on lire dans le communiqué. L’UNDP s’alarme également de "l’absence de retransmission télévisée des audiences", une carence démocratique selon elle, qui alimente un sentiment d’opacité et d’arbitraire dans l’opinion publique.
Dans une déclaration au ton grave, le parti de Bello Bouba appelle à "un sursaut de conscience nationale", invitant les institutions républicaines à faire preuve "de justice, d’impartialité et de service à la Nation".
Enfin, l’UNDP réitère son engagement en faveur d’un État de droit et exprime sa "solidarité à Maurice Kamto, aux militants épris de démocratie, et à tous les Camerounais qui aspirent à une élection libre, inclusive et crédible".

The National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation following the Constitutional Council's rejection of Maurice Kamto’s candidacy for the October 12 presidential election.
In a press release signed by National President Bello Bouba Maïgari, the UNDP denounced what it calls an "unjustified exclusion" and questioned the legitimacy of the electoral process. The decision, which follows a rejection by ELECAM based on a supposed “plurality of nominations” within the Manidem party, is considered by the UNDP as legally flimsy and politically motivated.
The party also lamented the lack of televised coverage of the hearings, describing it as a missed opportunity for democratic transparency.
Calling for a national awakening, the UNDP urged all republican institutions to rise above partisan interests and fulfill their duties with justice and impartiality.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to defending democratic values and standing with Maurice Kamto and all Cameroonians longing for free, fair, and inclusive elections.
