Pour leur tout premier match dans l’histoire de la sélection U16 féminine, les Lionnes Indomptables ont littéralement marché sur la Centrafrique : victoire écrasante 103 à 12 ce jeudi à Douala, en ouverture des qualifications de la FIBA Afrobasket U16 Féminin.
Un écart abyssal, un véritable blow-out comme rarement vu à ce niveau. En face, les jeunes Centrafricaines, visiblement dépassées par l’intensité camerounaise, n’ont jamais pu rentrer dans leur match.
? Shanice Mbaha en mode patronne
Si le collectif camerounais a globalement brillé, Shanice Mbaha, capitaine de cette jeune équipe et joueuse des FAP, a volé la vedette. Adresse, lecture, agressivité offensive... Elle a livré un récital digne d’une MVP, tout en gardant la tête froide.
À ses côtés, Diona Aline Bienvenue s’est également illustrée avec un double-double convaincant : 14 points et 11 rebonds pour l’intérieure camerounaise, précieuse dans la peinture et sur les secondes chances.
? Un ticket pour Kigali déjà (presque) validé
Il n’y aura pas de long suspense dans ce tournoi qualificatif de la Zone 4. Initialement prévu avec trois pays, le format a été chamboulé par le forfait du Tchad, qui n’a pas effectué le déplacement à Douala. Résultat : seuls le Cameroun et la Centrafrique se disputent le précieux billet pour la phase finale à Kigali (Rwanda).
Et au vu de la démonstration de force de ce jeudi, il faudrait un cataclysme pour empêcher les Lionnes de composter leur ticket. Le match retour est prévu ce samedi 17 mai à 14h00. Même avec un minimum d’intensité, les filles de coach Priscilla Mbiandja semblent déjà promises à la qualification.

Derrière cette large victoire, c’est surtout l’espoir d’une génération dorée qui renaît. Organisation, discipline, rigueur défensive, agressivité offensive... Cette première sortie laisse entrevoir un bel avenir pour le basketball féminin camerounais.
Les regards sont désormais tournés vers Kigali 2025, et à ce rythme, les Lionnes U16 auront leur mot à dire sur la scène continentale.

This blowout wasn’t just a win—it was a statement. From the opening tip-off, the Central Africans were overwhelmed by the intensity and cohesion of the young Cameroonian side.

Leading the charge was none other than team captain Shanice Mbaha, who lit up the court with offensive brilliance. The FAP standout made scoring look effortless and was simply unstoppable throughout the game.
She wasn’t alone though. Diona Aline Bienvenue dominated the paint and finished with an impressive double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds), showcasing her strength and determination under the rim.
? Kigali in Sight
Originally set to be a three-team round robin tournament, the qualifiers took a major shift after Chad withdrew, leaving only Cameroon and the Central African Republic to battle it out for a single ticket to the FIBA U16 Women’s Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda.
With such a crushing win in the first leg, it would take a miracle of epic proportions for the Central African Republic to overturn the deficit in the second leg scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 2:00 PM.
Head Coach Priscilla Mbiandja and her team are already cruising toward Rwanda, barring any disaster.
? A Bright Future for Cameroonian Women’s Basketball?
Beyond the scoreboard, what stood out was the discipline, energy, and teamwork of these young Lionesses. If this performance is anything to go by, Cameroon may be witnessing the birth of a golden generation in women’s basketball.
