Cricket: Domestic Champions League Launched

The best four teams of the competition will qualify for the semi-finals of the Cup of Cameroon which will take place on August 25, 2017.

The 2017 edition of the joint domestic cricket league and the Cup of Cameroon tournament was launched in Yaounde on Saturday August 5, 2017. Organised by the Cameroon Cricket Federation, the competition brings together eight teams from across the country.

Speaking at the launch the President of the Cameroon Cricket Federation, Victor Agbor Nso said this year the level of the competition will be higher than in the previous editions thanks to the supply of equipment from partners. Victor Agbor Nso said the focus is to develop local championship and to make sure that there is a strong cricket national team and another one for the youth.

The teams have been divided in to two pools. Pool A teams are Academy Cricket Club of Douala, Trailblazers Cricket club of Yaounde, Kop Pioneers Cricket Club of Yaounde and Warriors Cricket Club of Yaounde. The teams in Pool B are Pathfinders Cricket Club of Yaounde, Cheetahs Cricket Club of Bamenda, Royals Cricket Club of Buea and Spartans Cricket Club of Etoug-Ebe. The competition will be played on an away and return leg formula. A total of 24 games will be played during the championship within a period of three weeks. The best four teams of the competition will qualify for the semi-finals of the Cup of Cameroon which will take place on August 25, 2017.

This year’s tournament promises to be tough as each team will be out to overthrow the current champions, Academy Cricket Club of Douala, who are keeping the title for the past four years.
