Tout commence par une pointe d’humour acide. Blatter imagine Infantino « capable d’organiser un jour une Coupe du monde dans l’espace, à condition qu’il trouve des arbitres ». La plaisanterie à peine lancée, le ton se durcit.
Selon Blatter, le football mondial est désormais confisqué par la politique, et Infantino en serait le principal architecte.
« Il y a 211 fédérations, et pas une seule ne s’élève contre un président qui ne parle qu’aux chefs d’État et qui a politisé la Coupe du monde », tonne l’ancien patron.
Il poursuit : « On a l’impression que des politiciens saoudiens et américains vont prendre le contrôle. »
Dans sa ligne de mire, un épisode récent : l’attribution du Prix FIFA de la Paix à Donald Trump, ami d’Infantino. Une scène qui l’a consterné.
« Ils ne devraient pas décerner ces prix. Le football ne doit pas distribuer des prix pour la paix. Nous devrions plutôt remporter le prix Nobel de la paix en tant que football. Ce qu’ils ont fait est honteux, vraiment honteux. »
Blatter va plus loin encore, se demandant ironiquement :
« Je ne me souviens plus si c’est Trump ou Infantino qui m’a succédé. »
Une colère froide contre Infantino
Le Suisse n’a pas digéré ce qu’il considère comme un manque de reconnaissance.
« Je pense que mon successeur devrait témoigner du respect à l’homme qui a bâti cet héritage qu’est la FIFA. Il a pris les rênes dans une situation financière très saine. Mais au lieu de cela, il s’oppose à moi. Je ne comprends pas. »
Suspendu pour corruption jusqu’en 2027, Blatter aura alors 91 ans. Mais loin d’éteindre sa flamme, cette sanction semble raviver chez lui une forme d’ambition tardive.
« Lorsque j’ai été suspendu, j’ai remis mon mandat. Mais je le conserve ; je suis toujours le président élu », affirme-t-il, presque bravache, avant de conclure sur une note d’incertitude :
« J’espère être encore là à ce moment-là. »
Une sortie qui ne laissera personne indifférent dans un monde du football déjà traversé par de nombreuses tensions politiques. Et à la FIFA, certains doivent probablement se dire : Blatter n’a pas dit son dernier mot.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter is far from done making noise. At 89 years old, the Swiss football boss unleashed a fresh wave of criticism against his successor, Gianni Infantino, in a lengthy interview with The Telegraph—even suggesting he could return to FIFA once his suspension ends.
Blatter began with a sarcastic jab, saying he could imagine Infantino “organising a World Cup in space one day—if he can find referees.” But the humour quickly gave way to anger.
According to Blatter, global football is becoming dangerously politicised, and Infantino is to blame.
“There are 211 federations, and not a single one speaks out against a president who only talks to heads of state and has politicised the World Cup,” he said.
“It feels like Saudi and American politicians are taking control.”
One episode particularly irritated him: Infantino awarding the FIFA Peace Award to Donald Trump, his friend. Blatter watched the ceremony “with shock.”
“They shouldn’t be giving such awards. Football shouldn’t be handing out peace prizes. We should be aiming to win the Nobel Peace Prize as football. What they did is unacceptable—shameful, really shameful.”
Blatter added bitterly: “I can’t even remember whether it was Trump or Infantino who succeeded me.”
A Stinging Reproach to Infantino
He continued with a direct message:
“My successor should show respect to the man who built FIFA’s legacy. He inherited a financially healthy organisation. Instead, he opposes me. I don’t understand.”
Suspended until 2027 due to a corruption scandal, Blatter will be 91 by then—but his ambitions are far from dead.
“When I was suspended by FIFA’s Ethics Committee, I handed in my mandate. But I still keep it; I’m still the elected president,” he claimed, before adding wistfully: “I just hope I’m still alive then.”
One thing is clear: in the ever-political world of global football governance, Blatter is not done shaking the table.
