Il dénonce vigoureusement l’interdiction de sortie du territoire imposée à Issa Tchiroma Bakary, candidat déclaré à la magistrature suprême.
Pour le MRC, cette décision est « arbitraire, liberticide et révélatrice d’une répression systématique orchestrée par le pouvoir en place ». L'ancien parti de l’opposant Maurice Kamto y voit une atteinte frontale à la liberté de circulation et à la liberté d’expression, garanties par la Constitution.
« Ce type d’acharnement contre un candidat politique montre à quel point nombre de nos hauts fonctionnaires et responsables sont prisonniers d’un système mafieux, paralysés par la peur de représailles », déplore Mamadou Mota dans un ton sans équivoque.
Le MRC appelle les Camerounais à briser le silence et les chaînes de la peur, afin de libérer le pays d’un système qu’il qualifie d’oppresseur. Le parti exige la levée immédiate de l’interdiction visant Issa Tchiroma Bakary et réitère son attachement aux principes démocratiques.
Dans un contexte national déjà tendu, le MRC exprime également sa solidarité totale envers Issa Tchiroma et tous ceux qui œuvrent pour la démocratie et les droits humains au Cameroun.
Enfin, le parti lance un appel à la communauté internationale, lui demandant de « prendre note de cette dérive inquiétante » et de faire pression sur les autorités camerounaises afin qu’elles respectent les libertés fondamentales.
Le ton est donné : à trois mois du scrutin présidentiel, le climat politique camerounais s’annonce sous haute tension.
? Travel Ban on Issa Tchiroma: MRC Denounces Growing Authoritarianism in Cameroon
In a strongly worded press release, Mamadou Mota, interim national president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), condemned the travel ban imposed on presidential candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
Describing the move as arbitrary and oppressive, Mota stated that the ban violates fundamental freedoms, including freedom of movement and freedom of speech. “This is yet another clear example of the regime’s strategy to stifle dissent,” the statement reads.
The CRM urges the Cameroonian authorities to immediately lift the restriction, reaffirming that every citizen — including political candidates — must be guaranteed full constitutional rights.
In a bold appeal to citizens, Mota encourages Cameroonians living under fear of state reprisals to break free from their chains and help liberate the nation from what he calls a “mafia-like system”.
The party also extends its full solidarity to Issa Tchiroma and all those striving for democracy and human rights in Cameroon.
The CRM is calling on the international community to take note and pressure the Cameroonian government to uphold civil liberties ahead of the volatile 2025 presidential election.
