C’est une délégation de l’UNDP, conduite par le Sénateur Pierre Flambeau Ngayap, secrétaire général du parti, qui a déposé le dossier de candidature à Yaoundé, au siège de la Direction générale d’ELECAM. Un geste fort, moins de deux semaines après la démission fracassante de Bello Bouba Maigari du gouvernement, où il occupait depuis longtemps des fonctions ministérielles.



Cette candidature marque une rupture stratégique : après avoir longtemps accompagné le président Paul Biya dans la majorité présidentielle, Bello Bouba choisit de s’affirmer comme une alternative crédible au pouvoir en place. L’homme politique du septentrion, ancien Premier ministre sous Ahmadou Ahidjo, semble prêt à faire entendre une autre voix.



La journée s’annonce d’ailleurs riche en rebondissements puisque deux autres poids lourds politiques, Issa Tchiroma Bakary et Toimano Ndam Njoya, sont également attendus à ELECAM pour le dépôt de leurs candidatures respectives.



Avec cette montée en puissance des candidatures issues de la scène politique dite « modérée », le paysage électoral camerounais gagne en densité. La présidentielle de 2025 s’annonce plus que jamais ouverte, disputée et stratégique.



 

2025 Presidential Race: Bello Bouba Maigari Throws His Hat in the Ring Against Paul Biya

The Cameroonian political landscape is heating up as the presidential election draws near. This Friday morning, Bello Bouba Maigari, President of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), officially joined the race for the presidency by submitting his candidacy to Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).



His application was submitted by a party delegation led by Senator Pierre Flambeau Ngayap, the UNDP’s Secretary-General. This move follows Bello Bouba’s recent resignation from the government, signaling his intent to challenge longtime President Paul Biya at the polls.



A former Prime Minister under Ahmadou Ahidjo and a key figure from the North, Bello Bouba is stepping out of the shadows to position himself as a serious contender for leadership.



Meanwhile, other prominent political figures, Issa Tchiroma Bakary and Toimano Ndam Njoya, are also expected to file their candidacies today, further intensifying the race.



The 2025 presidential election is shaping up to be a highly competitive and consequential political battle.
