André Onana and His Family Escape Serious Injury After Three-Car Crash in Turkey

A major scare for André Onana. The Cameroon international goalkeeper, who plays for Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United, was involved in a road accident on Thursday evening in Yomra, near Trabzon, Turkey. His family was also in the vehicle. Taken to hospital as a precaution, the goalkeeper was discharged after medical examinations revealed no serious injuries. However, his availability for Trabzonspor’s next match remains uncertain.

Onana taken to hospital after car crash

André Onana’s evening took an alarming turn just hours after Trabzonspor secured a 2-0 victory over Scottish side Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.

According to reports from Turkish and British media, the Cameroonian goalkeeper was driving home with members of his family when his vehicle was struck from behind by another car, reportedly travelling at high speed.

The impact allegedly forced Onana’s vehicle into another car, resulting in a three-vehicle collision in Yomra, near Trabzon.

The goalkeeper was taken to hospital for precautionary medical examinations. Fortunately, the tests reportedly revealed no serious injuries, and he was allowed to return home shortly afterwards.

Trabzonspor president confirms reassuring news

Trabzonspor president Ertu?rul Do?an confirmed the incident and sought to reassure supporters about the goalkeeper’s condition.

“There is nothing serious, nothing critical. We wish him a speedy recovery,” Do?an told Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor.

The fact that Onana’s family was also travelling in the vehicle made the incident particularly worrying. However, the medical news available so far has been reassuring.

A European victory followed by a frightening incident

Before the accident, Onana had been part of Trabzonspor’s 2-0 win over Hearts in the UEFA Conference League. The Turkish club secured a clean sheet before the goalkeeper was involved in the road collision later that evening.

The incident comes as Onana continues his spell at Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United. The former Ajax Amsterdam and Inter Milan goalkeeper has become an important figure at the Turkish club.

Trabzonspor praise their Cameroonian goalkeeper

Onana has also earned praise from Trabzonspor’s leadership for his performances and personality.

“He is a very valuable person and a very good friend. He has an exceptional personality, he is friendly, and he brings joy to the city. The fans adore him. We love him very much, and the feeling is mutual. His performances have been very good. I hope he continues in the same way,” president Ertu?rul Do?an said.

According to figures reported by Turkish outlet Sabah Spor, Onana had recorded 15 key saves and an efficiency rate of 89.1%. These statistics underline his importance to Trabzonspor, although they do not determine his fitness following the accident.

Will Onana play against Rizespor?

Attention now turns to Trabzonspor’s next league fixture against Rizespor, scheduled for Monday evening.

At this stage, there is no confirmed information establishing that Onana will miss the match. His physical condition following the accident and any subsequent assessment by the club’s medical staff will determine whether he is available.

For Cameroon supporters, however, the immediate priority is clear: Onana and his family have reportedly escaped serious injury.

After a frightening incident on Turkish roads, the goalkeeper’s health and the safety of his loved ones matter far more than football.
