Hervé Renard a assumé.

Final whistle at Ebimpé: Indomitable Lions silence the Elephants at home (0-1)

The Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé felt the weight of Cameroonian reality on Saturday. Against an expected Ivory Coast side, the Indomitable Lions secured a prestigious 0-1 victory in an international friendly that carried the feel of a serious warning.

Dominant and more enterprising from first whistle to last, Pagou’s men imposed their law. They converted their supremacy right after the break. In the 47th minute, Nsongo scored the only goal of the match. A decisive, clinical, efficient strike. The turning point.

Comforted by that early advantage, the Lions locked down their goal with remarkable collective solidity. They managed their strong periods, smothered the rare Ivorian attempts and refused to leave any opening. On the Ivorian side, despite a disorganised late push, offensive inspiration was sorely lacking over the 90 minutes.

Hervé Renard took responsibility. The Elephants’ coach fielded a heavily rotated starting eleven to give game time to new players. “I took risks with the starting lineup because it was the only moment to try the new players. I assume the responsibility for the risks I took – it’s part of my job,” he said after the match. Several established names remained on the bench. The French technician is working with a 25-player group and wanted to evaluate. The result is clear: a home defeat that points to several tactical issues still to resolve.

Meanwhile, Cameroon has filled up on confidence. A controlled performance from start to finish, an away win against a regional rival, and positive momentum heading into the next official fixtures. The Lions showed they can be solid, collective and efficient.

At Ebimpé, Cameroon spoke loud. The Elephants listened… and absorbed the blow.
