Ivory Coast 0-1 Cameroon: Indomitable Lions claim prestigious win in Abidjan

Cameroon secured a prestigious 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé, Abidjan. Bil Nsongo scored the decisive goal shortly after half-time, with Arthur Avom providing the assist.

The Indomitable Lions ended their international window on a high note with an important victory against one of Africa's leading football nations.

In front of the Ivorian home crowd, David Pagou's team showed defensive discipline and attacking efficiency to secure a narrow but valuable win.

Bil Nsongo makes the difference

The game was decided just after half-time.

In the 46th minute, Arthur Avom delivered the decisive pass for Bil Nsongo, who found the back of the net to give Cameroon the lead.

The goal changed the dynamic of the game.

Ivory Coast attempted to respond, particularly during the closing stages, but Cameroon remained well organised and protected its advantage until the final whistle.

Pagou changes his tactical approach

David Pagou made a significant tactical adjustment for the encounter.

The Cameroon coach moved away from his usual 3-5-2 formation and opted for a back four.

Simon Ngapandouetnbu started in goal, while Cameroon relied on a defensive structure including Samuel Kotto and Kevin Keben, with Jackson Tchatchoua also involved in the starting line-up.

Captain Bryan Mbeumo led the attack alongside Danny Namaso and Bil Nsongo.

The tactical change ultimately paid off, with Cameroon keeping a clean sheet and finding the decisive goal.

A confidence boost for Cameroon

The victory is particularly significant because it came against a strong Ivory Coast side on home soil.

For Pagou, the match represented another opportunity to assess his players and continue building the team ahead of future competitive fixtures.

The Cameroon coach has repeatedly emphasized the need to develop his own project while giving opportunities to Cameroonian players playing abroad.

The result in Ebimpé provides another positive indication of that process.

Ivory Coast fail to find the breakthrough

For Ivory Coast, the defeat will be a disappointing result in front of their home supporters.

The Elephants struggled to convert their opportunities and could not break through Cameroon's defensive organisation after Nsongo's opener.

Coach Hervé Renard had already warned before kick-off that there is no such thing as a friendly when Cameroon are involved.

His statement proved prophetic as the encounter developed into a competitive continental battle.

Cameroon finish the international window on a high

The Indomitable Lions can now look ahead with renewed confidence.

After their opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Cameroon have ended the international window with a victory over a major African opponent.

For Bil Nsongo, the decisive goal could also strengthen his position among Pagou's attacking options.
