Le Nigeria ne verra pas les demi-finales de la Coupe du Monde féminine U20. Les Falconets ont été éliminées en quarts de finale par la Colombie (0-1), au terme d’un match longtemps indécis qui s’est joué dans les toutes dernières secondes.

Au retour des vestiaires, la rencontre est montée en intensité. La Colombie a rapidement accumulé les avertissements, avec Cabezas sanctionnée à la 48e minute, puis Ortegon à la 50e et Panigua à la 52e.

Dans ce bras de fer de plus en plus tendu, chaque duel prenait une importance considérable. Le Nigeria continuait de défendre ses chances, mais la pression colombienne devenait progressivement plus insistante.

Mafisere expulsée, le tournant du match

Le véritable coup dur pour les Falconets est intervenu à la 76e minute.

Mafisere a reçu un carton rouge direct, laissant le Nigeria à dix joueuses pour le dernier quart d’heure et le temps additionnel. Une infériorité numérique particulièrement lourde de conséquences dans une rencontre où les deux équipes étaient jusque-là séparées par un seul détail.

Le banc nigérian a tenté de réorganiser son équipe afin de préserver ses chances. Oscar et Lucky ont notamment fait leur entrée pour apporter du sang neuf et permettre aux Falconets de résister aux dernières offensives colombiennes.

Loboa délivre la Colombie à la 90+2e

Alors que les Falconets semblaient se diriger vers une prolongation, la Colombie a finalement porté le coup fatal.

À la 90+2e minute, Loboa a trouvé l’ouverture et inscrit l’unique but de la rencontre. Un but synonyme de victoire (1-0), mais surtout de qualification colombienne pour les demi-finales.

Pour les Nigérianes, le scénario est particulièrement difficile à encaisser. Après avoir résisté pendant toute la seconde période malgré leur infériorité numérique, elles ont vu leurs espoirs s’envoler dans les dernières secondes.

Au coup de sifflet final, les larmes ont accompagné la sortie des Falconets, à l’image d’une équipe qui aura livré bataille jusqu’au bout.

Le Nigeria, dernier espoir africain, quitte le tournoi

Avec cette élimination, le Nigeria était le dernier représentant africain encore en course dans cette Coupe du Monde féminine U20.

Les autres sélections africaines engagées avaient déjà quitté la compétition dès la phase de groupes : le Ghana, le Bénin et la Tanzanie.

Le continent africain ne comptera donc aucun représentant dans le dernier carré de cette édition. Pour les Falconets, la déception est d’autant plus grande que la qualification pour les demi-finales s’est jouée sur un but encaissé dans les toutes dernières secondes.

La Colombie poursuit, elle, son parcours mondial. Le Nigeria quitte la scène, battu 1-0 après avoir longtemps entretenu l’espoir d’une place dans le dernier carré.

Une élimination cruelle pour les Falconets, mais un nouveau chapitre s’ouvre désormais pour cette génération nigériane qui aura porté les couleurs de l’Afrique jusqu’aux quarts de finale.

The Falconets' coaching staff responded with tactical changes, including the introduction of Oscar and Lucky, as Nigeria attempted to reorganize and withstand Colombia's pressure.

Despite being reduced to ten players, Nigeria continued to defend its chances of forcing extra time.

Loboa strikes in the 90+2nd minute

Just when the Falconets appeared to be heading towards extra time, Colombia delivered the decisive blow.

In the 90+2nd minute, Loboa scored the only goal of the match, giving Colombia a 1-0 victory and sending them through to the semi-finals.

For Nigeria, it was a particularly painful ending. The Falconets had managed to survive for more than 90 minutes, even after going down to ten players, only to concede in stoppage time.

The final whistle was followed by emotional scenes, with Nigerian players left in tears after seeing their World Cup journey come to an abrupt end.

Nigeria were Africa's last representatives

Nigeria had been the last African team remaining in the competition.

The other African representatives — Ghana, Benin and Tanzania — had already been eliminated during the group stage.

As a result, no African team will feature in the semi-finals of this edition of the U20 Women's World Cup.

For the Falconets, the tournament ends with a bitter taste. Nigeria were just minutes away from keeping their semi-final dream alive before Colombia struck at the death.

Colombia move on to the last four, while Nigeria leave the tournament after a 1-0 defeat that will be remembered for its dramatic ending.
