Alors que la Fédération sénégalaise de football (FSF) a officialisé sa nomination le 18 août 2026, le technicien français souhaite attendre la signature définitive de son contrat avant toute présentation officielle à la presse et au public.
Patrick Vieira veut d’abord signer son contrat
Annoncé comme le nouveau patron de la sélection sénégalaise, Patrick Vieira n’a pas encore officiellement pris ses fonctions. D’après la presse locale, l’ancien international français aurait posé une condition claire : pas de présentation officielle avant la conclusion des discussions contractuelles avec la FSF.
La présentation du technicien, initialement envisagée ces derniers jours, a donc été reportée. La Fédération avait pourtant confirmé le 18 août la nomination de Vieira, tout en indiquant que les échanges portant sur les modalités administratives et contractuelles se poursuivaient.
Une prudence qui n’est pas anodine. Le nouvel entraîneur des Lions semble vouloir éviter le scénario vécu récemment par son prédécesseur, Pape Thiaw.
Le précédent Pape Thiaw encore dans les esprits
La situation contractuelle de Pape Thiaw avait alimenté une importante polémique au Sénégal. L’ancien sélectionneur réclame toujours, selon les informations rapportées, plusieurs centaines de millions de francs CFA à la Fédération au titre de salaires et d’avantages qui n’auraient pas été réglés.
Dans ce contexte, Patrick Vieira entend manifestement verrouiller tous les aspects de son engagement avant de s’installer officiellement sur le banc des Lions.
Le message est donc clair : d’abord le contrat, ensuite la mission.
Pour la FSF, l’enjeu est désormais de finaliser rapidement les discussions afin de permettre au champion du monde 1998 de démarrer son mandat dans un environnement serein. Le Sénégal veut éviter qu’une nouvelle polémique administrative ne vienne parasiter le travail sportif de son nouveau sélectionneur.
Burkina Faso : Pascal Sawadogo quitte les Étalons Dames
Pendant ce temps, un autre changement majeur se prépare sur le banc d’une sélection ouest-africaine. Pascal Sawadogo n’est plus le sélectionneur de l’équipe nationale féminine du Burkina Faso.
Après plus de cinq années à la tête des Étalons Dames, le technicien burkinabè ne sera pas prolongé. La Fédération burkinabè de football (FBF) a annoncé le lancement du recrutement d’un nouveau sélectionneur.
La FBF a fixé des critères précis pour les candidats. Le futur entraîneur principal devra être titulaire au minimum de la Licence A CAF, tandis que son adjoint devra posséder au moins la Licence B CAF.
La FBF lance officiellement l’appel à candidatures
Les techniciens intéressés disposent de quelques semaines pour déposer leur candidature. La date limite de réception des dossiers est fixée au 8 septembre 2026 à 16 heures.
Ce changement ouvre ainsi une nouvelle page pour les Étalons Dames, après plus de cinq ans sous la direction de Pascal Sawadogo.
Entre Dakar, où Patrick Vieira attend de sécuriser son contrat avant de prendre officiellement les commandes des Lions, et Ouagadougou, où la Fédération cherche déjà son prochain entraîneur des Étalons Dames, le mercato des sélectionneurs africains continue de bouger.

Vieira wants the contract finalized first
According to local media reports, Patrick Vieira does not want to be officially presented until all contractual and administrative discussions with the FSF have been completed.
His presentation, which had been expected in recent days, has therefore been postponed. When the federation announced his appointment on August 18, it also stated that discussions over the administrative and contractual terms were still ongoing.
The former France international appears determined to avoid the difficulties experienced by his predecessor, Pape Thiaw.
Pape Thiaw dispute remains a warning
Pape Thiaw's contractual situation sparked controversy in Senegal. The former head coach is reportedly still demanding several hundred million CFA francs from the FSF over unpaid salaries and benefits.
Vieira therefore appears keen to ensure that every aspect of his agreement is finalized before officially taking charge of the Lions of Senegal.
The message is straightforward: contract first, mission second.
For the FSF, the priority is now to conclude the negotiations quickly and allow the 1998 World Cup winner to begin his tenure in a stable environment.
Burkina Faso part ways with Pascal Sawadogo
Meanwhile, another coaching position has opened up in West African football.
Pascal Sawadogo is no longer the head coach of Burkina Faso's women's national team. After more than five years in charge of the Etalons Dames, he will not be offered a new contract.
The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) has announced the recruitment of a new head coach.
The next manager must hold at least a CAF A Licence, while the assistant coach must possess at least a CAF B Licence.
Applications open until September 8
Interested coaches have until September 8, 2026, at 4 p.m. to submit their applications.
The departure of Sawadogo opens a new chapter for the Etalons Dames after more than five years under his leadership.
