Vinicius Junior reste à Madrid… et Mikel se paye Arsenal

Le dossier Vinicius Junior est désormais définitivement refermé. Le Brésilien de 26 ans a prolongé avec le Real Madrid jusqu’au 30 juin 2032. Et John Obi Mikel, invité de son podcast The Obi One, n’a pas raté l’occasion de chambrer les supporters d’Arsenal qui rêvaient de voir l’attaquant débarquer à Londres.

« Je n’ai jamais cru qu’il allait quitter Madrid », a lâché l’ancien milieu de Chelsea. Pour le Nigérian, cette piste n’a jamais été sérieuse. Pire : selon lui, le Brésilien a simplement utilisé l’intérêt des Gunners comme levier.  
« Il s’est servi d’Arsenal pour obtenir un meilleur contrat avec le Real Madrid. »

Et le plus piquant : « Je ne sais pas ce qu’ils fumaient pour penser que Vinicius allait quitter le Real Madrid. »  
Message reçu cinq sur cinq. Quand on évolue dans l’un des clubs les plus titrés d’Europe, on ne part pas facilement. Les fans d’Arsenal qui y croyaient dur comme fer ont reçu une belle douche froide nigériane.

Juan Micha, c’est fini en Guinée équatoriale

Changement de cap total à Malabo. La Fédération Équatoguinéenne de Football (FEGUIFUT) a mis fin aux fonctions de Juan Micha Obiang en tant que sélectionneur national. La décision a été prise lors de la réunion du comité exécutif le 10 août 2026.

Nommé après un beau parcours avec les jeunes et une CAN mémorable, le technicien local voit son aventure à la tête du Nzalang Nacional s’arrêter net. Les dirigeants veulent donner une nouvelle orientation au projet sportif. Un tournant majeur à l’approche des prochaines échéances internationales. Le nom du successeur (ou d’un staff intérimaire) devrait être annoncé dans les prochains jours.

Hervé Renard garde un œil sur Yan Diomandé

De son côté, le nouveau sélectionneur des Éléphants, Hervé Renard, suit de très près l’évolution de Yan Diomandé. Le jeune ailier ivoirien vient de signer au Real Madrid pour un montant estimé à 140 millions d’euros, un transfert spectaculaire.

Mais Renard, dans un entretien exclusif à Africafoot, refuse de s’arrêter au chiffre. « Il va beaucoup progresser. C’est un jeune joueur avec beaucoup de talent. C’est un profil atypique, excellent dribbleur », analyse-t-il.

Il rappelle le chemin parcouru : « Il y a un an et demi, il n’était pas très connu, quand il évoluait à Leganés. Depuis, il a réussi un très bon passage à Leipzig et il est devenu international. »

Et sur le prix ? « Diomandé n’est pas responsable de ces tarifs très élevés. » Ce qui intéresse vraiment le technicien français, c’est ce que le joueur pourra encore apporter à la sélection ivoirienne. Au Real Madrid, le jeune talent va grandir. Et les Éléphants comptent bien en profiter.

The Vinicius Junior saga is officially over. The 26-year-old Brazilian has extended his contract with Real Madrid until 30 June 2032. On his podcast The Obi One, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel took the opportunity to mock Arsenal supporters who hoped the star would move to London.

“I never believed he was going to leave Madrid,” Mikel said, stressing that Vinicius plays for one of Europe’s most successful clubs. He believes the Gunners’ interest was used as leverage: “He used Arsenal to get a better contract with Real Madrid.”

And the killer line: “I don’t know what they were smoking to think Vinicius was going to leave Real Madrid.”  
A brutal reality check for those who genuinely believed a move to the Emirates was on the cards.

Juan Micha dismissed by Equatorial Guinea

In Malabo, the Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) has terminated Juan Micha Obiang’s role as national team coach. The decision was taken during the executive committee meeting on 10 August 2026.

After a solid spell with the youth teams and a memorable AFCON campaign, the local coach’s time in charge of the Nzalang Nacional has come to an end. Officials want a new direction for the national project. A successor or interim staff is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Hervé Renard keeps close tabs on Yan Diomandé

Newly appointed Ivory Coast coach Hervé Renard is closely following Yan Diomandé’s progress. The young winger has completed a spectacular 140-million-euro move to Real Madrid from RB Leipzig.

In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Renard looked beyond the fee. “He is going to improve a lot. He’s a young player with a lot of talent. He’s an atypical profile, an excellent dribbler,” he said.

He recalled how far the player has come: “A year and a half ago he wasn’t very well known when he was at Leganés. Since then he had a very good spell at Leipzig and became an international.”

On the high price tag: “Diomandé is not responsible for these very high fees.” What matters most to Renard is what the player can still bring to the national team. At Real Madrid, Diomandé will keep developing – and the Elephants intend to benefit.
