CAN U17 – Lions U17 : « On a grillé un joker », Alioum sonne la révolte avant la finale face à l’Ouganda
Battus d’entrée par la Côte d’Ivoire (2-0), les Lionceaux ne sont pas morts. Loin de là. Le sélectionneur Saidou Alioum assume : oui, ils ont « grillé un joker ». Mais la compétition est loin d’être finie. Reste un match, une finale. Un coup à jouer.
Face aux Ivoiriens, les jeunes Camerounais ont livré une première mi-temps convaincante. Occasions nettes, maîtrise, allant… « On a eu beaucoup d’occasions de mener au score », rappelle Alioum. Mais ce petit but, ce fameux but, leur a échappé. Problème : en deuxième période, l’adversaire a frappé vite. Un but encaissé, et une équipe un instant « démoralisée ».
Pourtant, les Lions U17 ne se sont pas effondrés. « Ils ont su réagir et revenir dans le match », salue le sélectionneur. Mais sans égalisation. Le score reste là, cruel.
Un joker grillé, une finale en héritage
« Dans une compétition à quatre équipes, perdre le premier match, c’est dangereux », analyse Alioum. Et l’Ouganda en a profité : déjà trois points. La Côte d’Ivoire aussi. Pendant ce temps, Cameroun et RDC sont à zéro.
Le calcul est simple, presque chirurgical : « Le prochain match est une finale pour exister. » Pas de round d’observation. Gagner ou sortir.
« J’ai demandé aux joueurs de rester concentrés »
Hier, à l’entraînement, le ton était sérieux, mais pas défaitiste. « J’ai demandé aux garçons de rester concentrés », glisse Alioum. Pas de panique, mais de l’orgueil. Le Cameroun ne lâche rien.

U17 AFCON – “We burned a joker”: Saidou Alioum rallies Cameroon U17 ahead of Uganda final clash
Defeated by Ivory Coast (1-0) in their opening game, Cameroon’s U17 Lions are far from eliminated. Coach Saidou Alioum admits they “burned a joker” but insists all hope is not lost. One match remains: a final against Uganda.
“We played a very good Ivory Coast side. The boys gave everything, especially in the first half where we had many chances to score. Unfortunately, we missed that little goal. In the second half, we conceded early, which demoralized the team a bit. But the players reacted and came back into the game. In the end, we couldn’t equalize,” Alioum explained.
With Ivory Coast and Uganda already on three points each, and Cameroon and DR Congo on zero, the next match is do-or-die.
“In a four-team group, losing the first match is risky. Now, our next game is a final to stay alive,” he added.
“I asked the players to stay focused,” Alioum said after training. The Lions U17 are down, but not out.
