Dans une mise au point sans ambiguïté, le ministère gambien affirme que le document est « faux, trompeur et n’émane pas du ministère ». Les autorités précisent n’avoir « publié aucune déclaration de ce type » ni autorisé « aucune personne ni entité » à diffuser un tel contenu en leur nom.
Le gouvernement gambien appelle ainsi le public, les médias et les parties prenantes à ignorer cette information, insistant sur la nécessité de vérifier toute communication via les plateformes officielles reconnues et certifiées.
« Nous restons déterminés à fournir des informations exactes et opportunes par le biais de nos canaux officiels », conclut le communiqué.

Cette sortie intervient dans un climat politique toujours électrique autour de l’élection présidentielle camerounaise du 12 octobre 2025.
Issa Tchiroma, qui continue de revendiquer sa victoire au scrutin, vit actuellement en exil en Gambie. Le Conseil constitutionnel camerounais avait officiellement proclamé Paul Biya vainqueur avec 53 % des suffrages.

The Gambian government has officially denied claims circulating on social media alleging that it requested the departure of Cameroonian opposition figure Issa Tchiroma Bakary to the United States.
In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting described a document dated February 16, 2026, titled “Final Declaration,” as false and misleading.
According to the ministry, the document does not originate from the government and was not authorized by any official entity.
“The Ministry has not issued any such statement and has not authorized any person or entity to disseminate the said document on its behalf,” the statement reads.
Authorities urged the public and media outlets to disregard the document and verify official communications through recognized and verified government platforms.
A Sensitive Political Context
Issa Tchiroma has been living in exile in The Gambia following Cameroon’s October 12, 2025 presidential election. While Tchiroma continues to claim victory, Cameroon’s Constitutional Council officially declared Paul Biya the winner with 53% of the vote.
