Xi Jinping urges U.S. to honor history and build a brighter, peaceful future
In a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of historical memory and peace.
“By drawing on the memory of those who perished and our commitment to history, we must cherish peace and build a better future,” Xi stated.
He recalled that during World War II, China and the United States fought shoulder to shoulder against fascism. On the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and in the global fight against fascism, Beijing invited the descendants of the U.S. Flying Tigers squadron to attend the military parade on Tiananmen Square.
Xi stressed that the Chinese people will never forget the support received from the U.S. and other allied nations. For him, this shared history should inspire cooperation and peace rather than division.
