Cameroon 2025 Presidential Election: APC Slams “Historic Betrayal” After Maurice Kamto’s Exclusion
The Political Alliance for Change (APC) has issued a scathing statement denouncing what it calls a “historic betrayal” by the Constitutional Council on August 5, 2025.
According to APC, the council – allegedly in collusion with the ruling CPDM party, the Minister of Territorial Administration, and the electoral body ELECAM – arbitrarily excluded the candidate presented by MANIDEM and supported by APC: Professor Maurice Kamto, widely known among his supporters as “the People’s Candidate”.
Signed by Jean Michel Nintcheu, Acting National Coordinator of APC and President of the Cameroon Front for Change, the communiqué accuses the regime of fear in the face of Kamto’s growing popularity.
APC calls on “the People of Change” to remain steadfast and not be discouraged by what it describes as blatant injustice, reiterating its belief that democratic alternation remains the only path to safeguard Cameroon’s future.
The party says it will announce its official position regarding the October 12 presidential election in due course and denies engaging in any talks or negotiations with the remaining candidates, warning against political manipulation.
