Rappel des faits :

Issa Tchiroma, candidat à la présidentielle d’octobre 2025, a été interdit de quitter le territoire hier à l’aéroport de Nsimalen alors qu’il s’apprêtait à se rendre au Sénégal pour un pèlerinage sur la tombe d’Ahmadou Ahidjo, premier président du Cameroun. Un commissaire de police lui aurait notifié verbalement cette décision, sans fournir de motif officiel.



Le faux communiqué attribué au ministre Sadi laissait entendre que ce dernier condamnait cette décision, suggérant un désaccord au sein du gouvernement. Une manœuvre qui, selon l’OMOP, vise à semer la confusion dans un contexte politique déjà tendu.



Les autorités appellent à la vigilance face à la désinformation, tandis que l’affaire relance le débat sur les libertés individuelles et les méthodes des forces de l’ordre.

A purported press release from Cameroon’s Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi, has been widely shared on social media. The document, allegedly an official reaction to recent events involving opposition figure Issa Tchiroma Bakary, has been officially debunked by authorities.



Denis Ombga Bomba, Head of the Media and Public Opinion Observatory (OMOP), confirmed that the statement is fake news, with no government affiliation. “This press release is a blatant manipulation and does not reflect Minister Sadi’s position,” he stated.



Background:

Issa Tchiroma, a candidate for the October 2025 presidential election, was barred from leaving Cameroon yesterday at Nsimalen Airport as he prepared to travel to Senegal for a pilgrimage to the tomb of Ahmadou Ahidjo, Cameroon’s first president. A police commissioner reportedly informed him of the travel ban verbally, without providing an official justification.



The fake press release attributed to Minister Sadi falsely claimed that he opposed the decision, implying internal government dissent—a move OMOP says aims to fuel political tension.
