L’enjeu ?

Cameroon Presidential Election: Abdouraman Hamadou Babba Takes ELECAM to Constitutional Council
In a bold legal and political move, Abdouraman Hamadou Babba has filed an appeal with Cameroon’s Constitutional Council on June 20, 2025, following ELECAM’s refusal to rule on his earlier petition submitted on May 23. The stakes? The legitimacy of candidacy requirements for the upcoming presidential election.
The Cameroonian politician is demanding that the Constitutional Council:
- Declare Paragraph 2 of Article 121 of the Electoral Code non-binding and legally void, citing its ambiguous and unwritten nature.
- Acknowledge the legal impossibility for political parties to secure representation in the National Assembly, Senate, and Regional Councils.
- Consequently, allow all political parties to field a presidential candidate without representation-based restrictions.
This challenge could reshape Cameroon’s electoral landscape if the Council rules in Babba’s favor. At a time when democratic fairness is under scrutiny, this appeal reignites debates on election inclusivity and transparency in Cameroon.
"I will keep you updated on the outcome of this appeal," he stated, signing off with wishes for a "Great weekend" and "Jumma Mubarak."
