A Financial First in CEMAC Zone
Launched in 2023, this bond allowed Cameroon to raise 176 billion FCFA, far exceeding the initial target of 150 billion FCFA. A remarkable feat, as it was the first multi-tranche bond (3, 4, 5, and 7-year maturities) ever issued in the CEMAC region.
At the time, Yaoundé justified this innovation by tight market conditions, marked by high interest rates due to monetary policy tightening. The structure appealed to investors by offering unprecedented flexibility: choosing between short-term low-yield bonds or long-term higher-return options.
A Winning Strategy for Cameroon
This repayment reinforces Cameroon’s financial credibility in regional markets. It marks the 7th successful bond operation for the country, strengthening its ability to raise funds for development projects.
