?? 2025 Presidential Election: Mystery Surrounds ELECAM–UN Convention, Opposition Sounds the Alarm
Tensions are mounting in Cameroon as the October 2025 presidential election approaches. The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), the Political Alliance for Change (APC), and the People of Change have jointly denounced what they call a deliberate effort by the outgoing regime to conceal the terms of a convention signed on May 9, 2025, between ELECAM and the United Nations.
Despite the significance of this agreement, no official communication has been provided since its signing. It was only after the MRC blew the whistle on May 14 that ELECAM released a statement on May 15. However, the opposition argues that the communiqué was vague and left out the actual content of the convention.
"The only unknown is the content of this mysterious convention, which is intended to be applied during the upcoming presidential election," the statement reads.
The opposition sees this secrecy as a potential strategy to manipulate the electoral process, urging all presidential candidates to demand the immediate disclosure of the convention to ensure transparency.
Their position is unwavering: "The Cameroonian people will not allow their votes to be stolen." The opposition remains on high alert, accusing the regime of engineering an electoral hijack behind closed doors.
