Le football africain est en deuil. L’international gabonais Aaron Boupendza, 28 ans, est décédé de manière tragique ce 16 avril 2025 à Hangzhou, en Chine, a appris cameroun24.

 L’attaquant du Zhejiang Professional Football Club a perdu la vie après une chute du 11e étage de son immeuble résidentiel.

L’annonce de son décès a d’abord semé le trouble, laissant place à de nombreuses spéculations. Certains évoquaient un suicide, d’autres parlaient d’homicide involontaire ou de chute accidentelle. Mais ce mercredi, la police chinoise a mis fin à toutes les rumeurs en publiant les résultats de son enquête.

    « Il a été constaté qu’il avait fait une chute mortelle du balcon de la résidence louée, et l’affaire pénale a été exclue », indique le communiqué officiel des autorités de Hangzhou.

L’accident serait survenu à 13h14, heure locale. Transporté d’urgence à l’hôpital, le joueur n’a malheureusement pas pu être sauvé. Le communiqué précise que « le traitement hospitalier a été inefficace ».

Aucune alerte préalable

Selon des sources proches de son club, Aaron Boupendza n’avait pas assisté à l’entraînement la veille. Pourtant, aucun signe apparent n’indiquait un mal-être ou une situation alarmante. Le joueur, arrivé récemment en Chine après des passages remarqués en Turquie et au Qatar, semblait bien intégré et motivé à relancer sa carrière.

Une carrière brillante, une fin brutale

Formé au CF Mounana au Gabon, Boupendza s’était illustré en Ligue 1 française, puis avait explosé sous les couleurs de Hatayspor en Turquie, devenant meilleur buteur du championnat turc en 2021. Il comptait également 30 sélections avec les Panthères du Gabon, pour plusieurs buts décisifs.

Sa disparition soudaine laisse un vide immense dans le football africain et au sein de la sélection gabonaise. De nombreux messages d’hommages affluent déjà depuis l’annonce, saluant un joueur talentueux, humble et passionné.

Aaron Boupendza: Chinese Police Reveal Cause of His Fatal Fall

The African football community is mourning the sudden and tragic passing of Aaron Boupendza. The 28-year-old Gabonese international and striker for Zhejiang Professional FC in China has died after falling from the 11th floor of his residential building in Hangzhou.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on April 16, 2025, and sparked widespread speculation, with rumors ranging from suicide to accidental fall or even foul play. But on Wednesday, local police in Hangzhou put an end to the speculation by releasing an official statement confirming the nature of the incident.

    “After on-site investigation, evidence gathering, and video tracking, it was confirmed that Aaron Boupendza, a 28-year-old male citizen of Gabon and a foreign player of Zhejiang Professional Football Club, accidentally fell to his death from the balcony of his rented residence. A criminal case has been ruled out,” the statement read.

The fall reportedly occurred around 1:14 PM local time, and Boupendza was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, doctors were unable to save him.

No prior warning signs

Sources close to the club revealed that Boupendza had missed training the day before, but there were no clear signs of distress or concerns raised about his mental or physical state. He had recently joined the Chinese Super League side and was reportedly focused on relaunching his career.

From Gabon to the world stage

Boupendza began his professional journey at CF Mounana in Gabon before moving to France, and later gained continental fame in Turkey, where he became the top scorer in the Süper Lig with Hatayspor in 2021. He also played in Qatar before moving to China.

With over 30 caps for the Gabon national team, Boupendza was known for his explosive pace, finishing ability, and fierce determination on the pitch.

His sudden passing leaves a painful void — not only in Gabonese football, but in the hearts of fans across the continent.
