Cameroon finished the competition on the 20th position moving two steps ahead of 2005 when they finished 22nd.

The national women’s handball team has been booted out of the ongoing 23rd women’s world handball championship in Germany. The Lionesses of Cameroon failed to qualify for the second round of the competition following a series of defeats.

After an intensive first round Cameroon registered four defeats and one draw. The Lionesses lost to the host country, Germany, in the opening game 15-28 and fell before Serbia 21-34 in the second game. In their third outing on December 5, 2017 the Lionesses lost to the Netherlands 22-29 and to lost South Korea 21-33 in the fourth game.

In their fifth and last game Cameroon drew with China 26-26 at the Leipzig Arena on December 8, 2017. Cameroon finished the first round of the competition on the fifth position with one point ahead of China.

In the President’s Cup, which is a competition for the last two teams of each group, Cameroon fifth in Group D played against Brazil fifth in Group C. The Lionesses lost to Brazil 28-26.
The other African representative, champions of Africa, Angola, beat Paraguay 32-28.

Angola will face Brazil in the match for the 17th position in the world ranking. Angola, Spain; Poland, Hungary, Romania, France and Brazil joined Cameroon last weekend in their H4 Hotels in Leipzig for the competition. Cameroon lost to Angola yesterday 33-23 in their last match in the competition.

Cameroon finished the competition on the 20th position on the official ranking and Angola 19th.

Despite all odds, the Lionesses of Cameroon have however been able to improve on their performance as compared to their first participation at the World Championship in 2005 where they finished 22nd.

Four countries have already qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Championship. They are France, Sweden, Denmark and Montenegro.
