Ntumyuy Harriett won the competition in the female category while Jague Alain dominated in the male category.

The 5th edition of the table tennis tournament christened ‘Grand Prix SONARA took place recently with Harriett Ntumyuy and Alain Jague emerging champions in the women’s and men’s categories respectively. Harriet beat Guimfack Saurelle in the final by 3-1; 13-13, 11-7, 11-6 and 13-11 to lift the trophy. Meanwhile Alain Jague beat Agobina Priso in three straight sets; 11-7, 11-5 and 11-2, to grab the trophy in the male category.

In the veteran category, it was Ngamaleu Leopold who emerged victorious in the fratricidal battle that opposed him to his fellow club member from Bepanda- Douala, edging him by 3 sets to 2; 1-9, 11-13, 11-13, 11-9 and 11-4.  The tournament was played on a knock-out system for the senior men and women senior categories while in the veteran category; athletes went through a championship phase before qualifying for the quarter finals.

It is worthy to mention that it has been three years since the last edition of the Grand Prix SONARA, an international tournament which has witnessed the participation of athletes from foreign countries in the past like Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, DR Congo, Tunisia, Morocco and Togo. Previous laureates of the tournament are namely; Aruna Quadri, Funke Oshonaike from Nigeria, Lashin and Assar from Egypt, Saka Suraju and Saheed from the D.R. Congo and Cameroonian born Sarah Hanffou.

The 5th edition of the tournament in Limbe was also marked by the distribution of tennis equipment to the South West Regional league comprising two tables, balls and clothing for rackets. The veteran athletes from the South west Tita Njie received a special prize from the president of the table tennis federation, Alfred Assobo consisting of a sportswear and rackets.
