Following is a press release from the Minister of Higher Education.

“Under the highest institutional authority of His Excellency Paul BIya, President of the Republic, Head of State and coordination of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Mr Philemon Yang, the Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academic Orders informs teachers, students and support staff of the Universities of Bamenda and Buea, as well as Private Higher Education Institutions of the North West and South West Regions that in keeping with its regular missions, the State has taken appropriate measures to ensure security on campus, student residential areas, diverse public milieu and concerned quarters.


The Governors of the above mentioned Regions, Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chanclelors of these Universities have spared no effort for the resumption of classes to be effective, as from Monday the 23rd of January 2017 in an atmosphere of serenity, mutual confidence and tranquility.


The State has taken its responsibilities: parents, teachers, students and support staff do not have to be afraid. Peace, order and security reigns in these two Regions as well as in the entire national territory, under the highest impulsion of the President of the Republic, Head of State, guarantor of the security of property and the people.


The Minister of Higher Education is asking parents, teachers, students and support staff of these Public and Private Higher Education Institutions of the North West and South West Regions to make the Right to Education to prevail, which is inscribed in the Constitution and not to fall prey to reprehensive maneuvers which is a psychological warfare imagined by an insignificant minority of citizens who were dreaming to take the Anglophone educational sub-system hostage for unconstitutional political motives”.
