Three people lost their lives in a road accident in the Mvan area of Yaounde in the evening of Tuesday, November 8, 2016. According to sources, the incident occurred between 6.30 pm and 7 pm when a taxi travelling from Mbankomo to Yaounde collided head-on with a Toyota Hiace mini-bus travelling from Yaounde to Douala.

The Head of the nearby Ahala Gendarmerie Post, Senior Warrant Officer (“Adjudant chef”) Miyono Paul Calvin, when contacted yesterday, November 9, 2016, refused to give any information, explaining that current service regulations forbade him from doing so. However, witnesses said the over-speeding taxi swerved to avoid a pothole about 100 metres to the flyover adjacent the Sofavinc wine plant from Mvan end, thereby colliding with the mini-bus.  The aftermath left two people dead on the spot – a 67-year-old woman and another younger woman, Samuel, a neighbor, told Cameroon Tribune yesterday. The third casualty, the driver of the taxi, reportedly died on his way to hospital.

According to the owner of the mini-bus who refused to disclose his name, the driver was admitted in the Yaounde University Teaching Hospital at Melen with a cut on the nose. “He risks losing the left eye,” the man explained. Meanwhile, the wreckage of the vehicles are currently parked in the premises of the Ahala Gendarmerie Post, located about 400 metres away from the scene of Tuesday’s accident.
