Mention Ben Decca and Makossa music and memories will immediately go back to when “Aphrodite,” his first album, hit the music shelves, thrilling clubbers to the dance floor. At the time, little was known of the present-day Makossa guru, who has kept the flare for Makossa in the minds of many fans amidst competing alien genres like Mapouka, Ndombolo, etc.

As evidence of the respect he enjoys among his admirers, Ben Decca was nicknamed the ‘Makossa man.’ In order to celebrate his three decades in music, the 30th Anniversary Organisation Committee has prepared a well-nurtured agenda. It will be celebrated at the international level next October in Toronto, Canada and Washington in the USA. In Cameroon, celebrations in Yaounde and Douala last from November 8-21, 2015 on the theme, “Noces de Perle.”

The programme outline comprises a review of Ben Decca’s 24 albums through performances with other Cameroonian artistes, a press conference and donations to the New Bell Central Prison in Douala and an orphanage in Yaounde in order to share his joy with the less privileged. There will also be decoration with a medal and traditional recognition by the Organising Committee and traditional authorities respectively. This was revealed over the weekend at La Chaumière Jazz Club at Bonapriso, Douala, during a press conference by Ben Decca. The man who has since established himself as one of the leading Makossa artistes, invited fans and more importantly, sponsors to commemorate with him and promote Cameroonian culture.
